A jazz-based duo and a classical string quartet intertwine on Cloud Chamber.
This unique line-up of six stringed instruments creates an enormous wealth of musical possibilities and colours. The result is a completely new form of chamber music: understated but at the same time with great power of expression.
“Clouds are our grand constant companions, as noble as mountains, shaping our desires, yet as ineffable as the wind. Like music. Imagine having your own cloud”, says Ed Verhoeff, guitarist/composer and initiator of this venture.
Different occupations alternate in the Cloud Chamber. From an intimate duo to an extended string ensemble, carried by a subtle interplay of lines with strong improvisations.
The repertoire is varied: partly specially written and arranged for this project, supplemented with well-known ‘classics’ from jazz and classical music (i.e. Claude Debussy and Lee Konitz), that come together in a contemporary and timeless story.
