Tenor saxophonist Barend Middelhoff (born in the Netherlands, based in Italy) teams up with star guitarist Peter Bernstein, Clovis Nicolas on bass and Jason Tiemann on drums to catch and explore that New York jazz scene vibe on his new release Fair Play. The album title refers to the 1st and/or 2nd takes that are selected for this album, recorded on June 20th 2019 at Acoustic Recording, Brooklyn, New York, by engineer Michael Brorby. Middelhoff wrote 3 of the 8 pieces, his long-time buddy Clovis Nicolas also 3. They met for the first time in Paris in 1998, when Barend moved from Amsterdam to Paris. Five years later Barend moved to Italy and Clovis to New York City. “It took more than 15 years before I contacted Clovis again”, says Barend. “It was as if no time had passed. After an exchange of some newly written pieces, we decided to call Peter and Jason to record an album. Michael Brorby was pleasantly surprised to see me again, and with a new group. He remembered our first recording in 1995 for my debut album SOIL”. Barend Middelhoff – Tenor Saxophone |
