Fred van Hove (born 1937, Belgium)
Belgian's top pianist and composer, with his early self-titled album Fred Van Hove and a later album Flux marked his place in improvisation piano playing. Fred has a long history of cooperating with musicians of different genre, including sax player Peter Brötzmann and drummer Han Bennink, and produced scores for Danish director Dreyer and German director Fritz Lang for their classic silent films. Even in his seventies, Fred still plays in tours.
Shih-Yang Lee (born 1982, Taiwan)
A rare Taiwan pianist who plays improvisation whole heartedly. Lee crosses into theater and cinema music, and he is a prominent member of the band Caught Up In, which, with their album Four Characters were nominated to three awards in the third Golden Indie Music Award, awarded "Best Jazz Single" and "Best Jazz Album". He also performes with international artists such as Japanese free improvisation drummer Sabu Toyozumi, and er-hu player Chie Mukai.
