Souleance are producer extraordinaire Fulgeance and the French Funky President DJ Soulist. Fulgeance is rapidly becoming one of the most respected beatmakers in Europe with his work on Musique Large, One Handed, MPM and in his Peter Digital Orchestra guise. Soulist is one of the men behind the legendary What The Funk? parties in Paris and is a stalwart of the Parisian music scene.
As well as culling a selection of highlights from their three EPs, the duo have rounded out their trademark mix of soulful samples, crunchy beats and quirky arrangements with some very special guest appearances. There are vocals from Rashaan Ahmad (Pride) and labelmate Homecut (The Unseen) and drums from Shawn Lee (Ubiquity), on the stunning live rework of Le Plaisir (which also includes live bass from Fulgeance!).
The album has a huge range of influences that takes in breaks (Le Monde), soul (Tryin’), Hip Hop (Pride), Brasilian (Passarinho) and even the funkier end of the 80s (Cool FM). This makes their achievement in crafting a coherent and unified album all the more remarkable. The duo have also developed a fantastic live show, so look out for them at this summer’s more discerning festivals (including Croatia’s Soundwave).
