AFRIKA FESTIVAL SET TO RELEASE THEIR OWN FESTIVAL CD:
‘Live in Hertme’ will be available at the festival, via Painted Dog Records & at the better record stores.
It gives us great pleasure to announce, that for the first time from the Afrika Festival Hertme (the Netherlands, Twente, Overijssel), a CD is being released. It is the second release on producer Frank Jochemsens ‘Very open jazz records’ label.
'Live in Hertme' brings two sublime concert recordings from the last two editions of the festival together:
Kora-virtuoso Sekou Kouyatefrom Guinea-Conakry hastily booked as replacement act, and arriving literally with moments to spare, put on an unforgettable performance in 2015. He has a unique style, and with the help of a wah-wah pedal, it gives his groovy music a swampy and funky twist.
During the soccer quarterfinals of the European Cup in 2014, the duo Debademba (Mali/Burkina Faso) performed, it must be said, playing second fiddle to the football proceedings. It was, according to the die-hards that remained at the music podium, possibly one of the best evenings Hertme has ever witnessed. With its basis in the blues, with limitless space for improvisation & with a quite chilling vocal performance.
Both of these magnificent live performances are now squeezed onto one CD. Recorded and mastered by LIVE Concert Recordings owner Marc Broer, compiled by music aficionados David Gibbs & Frank Jochemsen & under the watchful eye of Festival Programmer Rob Lokin.
